Decay

This sculpture captures the relentless passage of time as it erodes even the most enduring aspects of identity and self. The piece juxtaposes three stages of form, with each face symbolizing a different phase of existence—one pristine, one weathered, and one rough and crumbling. The smooth, white face on the left represents youth or the untouched self, a version unscarred by life’s trials. The center face, marked with signs of wear and surface cracks, suggests the inevitable impact of time, as memories, hardships, and wisdom etch themselves into one’s being. Finally, the rough, stone-like piece to the right signifies the ultimate dissolution, a return to earth, as all things face decay.

This progression evokes the discovery of ancient statues, often unearthed in fragments, bearing witness to the lives they once represented. The work is a powerful reminder of our impermanence—how time wears down not only our physical forms but also the imprints we leave behind. It asks viewers to confront their own temporality, recognizing that all, no matter how solid or permanent they may seem, are subject to the silent, slow erosion of time.
